A brilliant way to sparkle up a regular jar of Christmas Mincemeat – turn it into Chocolate Mincemeat. And before you all turn your noses up at the idea, I was a real non-believer….until I tried it!
Ingredients:
1 x 411g jar of Mincemeat
1 1/2 tbsps cocoa powder
1 tbsp water
1 tbsp brandy
50g dark choc chips
Empty the jar of mincemeat into a small pan.
Add the cocoa powder, water and brandy. (If you’d rather not use brandy use 2 tbsps of water instead)
Heat it over a gentle heat, stirring often until the mixture starts to simmer, keeping it on a low simmer let it bubble for 2 minutes.
Take it off the heat and allow to cool.
Once cool stir through the choc chips.
It’s ready to use in whatever you fancy – will make you some gloriously tasty mince pies! Store it in a sterilised air tight jar until you need it – will keep like that for upto 6 weeks. Once opened store it in the fridge and use within 3 weeks x
Chocolate Mincemeat

That sounds really interesting- I have seen recipes for Christmas cakes with chocolate, and I suppose raisins go well with chocolate. Might have to give it a go!
I can imagine chocolate mincemeat is nice, I put dark chocolate in my Christmas cake. There was a recipe in GH or BBC Good Food a few Christmases back for Dark Chocolate Christmas cake and I’ve not made another type since 🙂
now that sounds like something I could get to like – without the brandy because I am allergic to alcohol
I really want to give this a go. I would probably use juice instead of brandy, maybe orange juice as orange goes so well with chocolate!
Sounds delicious!!!
What a great twist with the chocolate , anything with Dark Chocolate is a real hit in our house xoxo
thank you for another wonderful recipe xoxo
I bet it smells lovely..And with one of your labels on the jar just perfect!!
What a combination. This sounds so tasty, i must try it. I’m always looking for something different.
Thanks
Oh going to make this and mix into my Christmas cupcakes x
I wonder how long this will last between making it and putting it in the pastry. Yum!
Sounds delicious!
Yum yum!
That sounds delicious ! Never heard that idea before.
…cannot wait to try this out…
Im doing few preps this weekend – trying few recipes for school cake sale so i will give this a go, cos we do need good mince pies with all that mulled wine…
I LOVE the bog standard mincemeat bear claws (although I have only found them in Waitrose so far) so must give these a go!
Sounds very tasty and they look ‘quick’ and easy to make………. may be just the thing after visiting my 96 year old grandmother this afternoon 🙂
Seriously your kitchen must be like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. I wouldn’t have even considered mixing the two. Do you have a team of Oompa Loompas?
This certainly sounds different Ruth!
I WILL give it a try tomorrow and let you know!!
I have enjoyed all your recipes so far.Thank you.x
Chocolate mincemeat sounds wonderful would certainly like to make it
Making some now! Got a jar of cheap mincemeat in the cupboard that doesn’t smell or look very appealing so giving this a go – smells amazing! Using rum as we don’t have brandy!
Chocolate Mincemeat?!!! hmmmm…got to give this a go, I have alot of mincemeat left over from latest batch of mince pies ;)xx

Will give these ago this week end so much for the diet hahah.x

I already zoosch up ordinary mincemeat with the addition of lots of cherries, cranberries and a good glug of Cointreau – so thanks for this idea to take it to the next level x
Mmm not sure about chocolate mincemeat although might be a good way to get my grandson interested as normally he dislikes sultanas but loves chocolate. Guess I should try it before commenting!
